Praying for Our Children

As parents of a 6-month-old baby and a 3.5-year-old, my wife and I have made it our mission to pray daily for our children. The Bible teaches us in Proverbs 22:6, “Train up a child in the way he should go, and when he is old, he will not depart from it.” Our greatest desire is that our children grow up knowing God, walking in His wisdom, and being filled with the fear of the Lord.

Part of what we do here at Heaven Born Studios is to help our children grow up in a way that honors God and Him. We believe that God is the source of all goodness and wisdom, and that He will continue to be the source of our children's faith and love. As much as we want our children engaged with biblical resources, games, and activities, we know prayer is not an option, and below are some of the ways we pray for our children and may it bless you.

Praying for the Fear of the Lord

The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom (Proverbs 9:10). We pray that our children will grow up with a deep reverence for God, recognizing His holiness and love. In a world that often disregards God's authority, we ask the Lord to set their hearts apart for Him, to instill a desire for righteousness, and to help them make choices that honor Him.

As they grow, we pray that they will not only respect God but also develop a personal relationship with Him. That they would not see God as distant, but as their loving Father who cares deeply for them. May they turn to Him in times of trouble, rejoice in Him in times of blessing, and always be led by His Spirit.

Praying for Wisdom and Understanding

In a world full of distractions, we pray that our children will be filled with God’s wisdom. James 1:5 tells us that if we lack wisdom, we should ask God, who gives generously. We ask the Lord to give them discernment in their decisions, to guard their minds from deception, and to help them develop a love for His Word.

We pray that as they grow, they will learn to make wise choices—not just based on what feels good at the moment, but choices rooted in biblical truth. That they will value integrity over popularity and righteousness over fleeting pleasure. May the Holy Spirit guide them daily, helping them navigate the challenges of life with godly wisdom.

Praying for a Personal Relationship with God

More than anything, we pray that our children will know God for themselves. We want them to experience His presence and understand His love. As Jesus said in Matthew 19:14, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of heaven belongs to such as these.”

We do not want their faith to be simply inherited from us. We want them to encounter the Lord personally. We pray that God will draw them to Himself, that He will place a hunger in their hearts to seek Him, and that they will find joy in reading His Word and talking to Him in prayer. May their relationship with Him be vibrant, growing, and full of life.

Praying for Protection and Strength

We pray for God’s protection over their lives, that He would shield them from harm and keep them strong in their faith. Psalms 91:11 reminds us that God commands His angels to guard us in all our ways. May our children always walk in His covering, finding refuge in Him when they face trials and difficulties.

The world is full of challenges such as temptations, pressures, and dangers that can lead young hearts astray. We ask the Lord to surround them with His hedge of protection, to guard their minds from harmful influences, and to keep them physically, emotionally, and spiritually safe. We pray that no weapon formed against them will prosper and that they will stand firm in their faith no matter what comes their way.

Encouraging Other Parents

If you’re a parent, we encourage you to pray over your children daily. Speak blessings over their lives and guide them in God’s truth. No prayer is ever wasted, and every word spoken in faith has an impact. As parents, we have the unique privilege of shaping our children’s spiritual foundation, so let’s be faithful in this calling.

May God bless your journey in raising children for His glory! If you have any specific prayer requests for your children, you can email us at info@heavenbornstudios.com and we will be happy to pray.
